Ronald W. Gaertner Sr.

Ronald W. Gaertner Sr., 79, of the North Hills died unexpectedly in his home Monday, Oct. 10, 2011.

He was the husband for 60 years of Jean (Occkial) Gaertner, and is the father of James, Donna (Chuck) Schnepp, David (Elaine), Daniel (Laura), Robert (Darcy) and the late Ronald Jr.; brother of Marion Davis and Louis (Marlene); brother-in- law of Connie (Wayne) Maue and Jack Occkial.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arthur Jr., Edward and Ralph. Gaertner was also the grandfather of 12 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family will welcome friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the , 388 Center Ave., West View. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Friday. Internment will be in the North Side Catholic Cemetery.

Before his retirement, Gaertner was employed by UPS for 27 years. He served in the Korean War as a Sub Mariner with the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of St. Sebastian's Church, the American Legion and AARP 3586.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Sebastian's School, 311 Siebert Road Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
