Ross House Fire Blamed on Faulty Furnace
Thursday morning's fire was contained to the basement of a home on Oak Street.
Ross Township Fire Marshal John Reubi said a furnace’s faulty gas control valve led to a house fire Thursday morning at 7710 Oak Street.
"The valve let too much gas into the furnace, and when it ignited, it caught some nearby combustible material on fire," he said. "Fortunately, the firefighters were able to contain it to the basement area."

The fire has been ruled an accident. Neither the man nor woman who live there were home at the time. All four of the couple's cats survived, however two were taken to the animal hospital after paramedics treated them at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The American Red Cross is helping the couple by providing temporary housing and food until more permanent arrangements can be made.
