Joe Muha has served on the North Hills School District Public Budget Committee.

Joe Muha, a 15-year Ross Township resident, recently announced his candidacy for the North Hills School Board.
Below is his statement announcing his candidacy:
I am running for the North Hills School Board so I can help make a difference for our community and continue the fine educational excellence that prompted my wife and me to move here 15 years ago. We have a son who is currently in 4th grade and who is active in cub scouts, football and playing the saxophone. I care deeply about doing what is best for our neighborhood families and our children’s futures.

Let me be clear that I want the best education for our children as possible and truly value our teachers and academic programs, but we are facing some critical decisions, especially in the budget. It is imperative that the board evaluates all expenditures and spends our tax dollars wisely in order that we will be able to maintain all the programs that are important to North Hills residents and continue to improve academic performance. My background and qualifications include:
- Member of North Hills School District Public Budget Committee.
- B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon.
- M.S. materials Science from University of Pittsburgh.
- M.B.A. from Chapman University.
- Metallurgical Engineer and Quality Assurance Manager at ATI Powder Metals.
- Certified Quality Engineer by American Society for Quality.
- Executive Committee for ASM International Pittsburgh Chapter.
- Coach of Youth soccer, baseball and flag football.
- Volunteer with youth liturgy at church.
- Leadership position with Cub Scout Pack 283.
The next few years will likely see some difficult decisions made by the school board with regards to the budget. I assure you that I will work to increase the quality of education given by our fine teachers and staff while trying to keep our costs at a minimum to help ensure that our community will not incur financial debt. For the past 6 years I have served on the North Hills School District Public Budget Committee. I have attended the majority of the school board meetings and have also addressed the school board about important issues.

I completed a workshop for Pennsylvania school board candidates and feel that my enthusiasm for education, volunteering, work experience, educational background and dedication to young people uniquely qualify me to meet these challenges.
