Ross Township Man Pleads Guilty to Welfare Fraud
Mahmoud Al-Rifai faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

A Ross Township man has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of mail fraud in connection with a welfare fraud scheme.
Mahmoud Al-Rifai, 43, admitted to filing a fraudulent online application with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for benefits which he received, but was not entitled, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The office of U.S. Attorney David Hickton said Al-Rifai filed the fraudlent claims for seven months beginning in Jan. of 2012.

U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab scheduled sentencing for Aug. 22. Al-Rifai faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
