Sinkhole Keeps Perry Highway Closed Through the Weekend

Heavy rains Monday afternoon flooded the drainpipe and washed away fresh fill from a sewer repair last week, creating a sinkhole.

Work continues to repair a drain pipe underneath Perry Highway, but the road will remain closed between West View Park Drive and Center Avenue through the weekend, and likely into next week.

"They're making progress, and will be working all day Saturday," said Lt. Matt Holland of the West View Police. "But it's still too early to say when the road will reopen."

Heavy rains Monday afternoon flooded the drainpipe and washed away fresh fill from a sewer repair last week, creating a sinkhole in the far right northbound lanes.

That same section of Perry Highway was closed for five days last week after another rainstorm damaged a sewer and a 10-inch water pipe.
