Sinkhole Repairs Continue, Perry Highway Remains Closed

Heavy rains Monday afternoon flooded the drainpipe and washed away fresh fill from a sewer repair last week, creating a sinkhole.

West View Police can't predict yet when Perry Highway between West View Park Drive and Center Avenue will reopen.

"They're making progress but a lot of work remains to be done," said Lt. Matthew Holland of the West View Police Department. "We want to make sure the connection between the drain pipe and the culvert underneath the sinkhole is repaired before we reopen the road."

Heavy rains Monday afternoon flooded the drainpipe and washed away fresh fill from a sewer repair last week, creating a sinkhole.

"The good news is, none of last week's repairs were damaged by Monday's rain," said Holland.

Holland refused to speculate on when the road would be repaired and open to traffic.

That same section of Perry Highway was closed for five days last week after another rainstorm damaged a sewer and a 10-inch water pipe.
