Boom and Then Lights Out: Transformer Fire Cuts Power to Parts of Ross
The transformer blew shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Chapel Drive near Babcock Boulevard.
Duquesne Light crews spent most of Sunday night replacing a transformer that exploded and then burned for 30 minutes on Chapel Drive near the intersection with Babcock Boulevard.
People living across the street in Swan Acres reported hearing the explosion, and seeing the flames.
No one was hurt. The exploding transformer cut power to homes in the area, and red lights at several traffic intersections. It's unclear exactly how many customers were affected.
A Duquesne Light crew first cut power to the burning transformer, then extinguished the fire. (see video)
