West View Woman Honored for Service to Journalism
Dr. Nancy Jones is a graduate of the former West View High School.

At its annual Golden Quills Awards banquet Monday, the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania honored West View native, Dr. Nancy C. Jones, with this year’s Service to Journalism Award for contributions to the field of journalism.
Jones is a graduate of the former West View High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master's degree from the Medill School of journalism at Northwestern University, and a PhD from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
During her career, she wrote for the Daily Press in Newport News, VA; the Miami Herald; and the Associated Press in Louisville, KY.

She recounted that she was on duty at the AP on November 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
She also taught journalism at Penn State University, Duquesne University, and finally Point Park Collegewhere she retired in 1996 after serving as the chair of the department of journalism and communications.

She has also taught journalism overseas, making three separate trips to Beijing, China.
Jones remains active in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and as a member of the West View United Methodist Church.
