First Day of Spring: See Any Signs in North Whitehall?

Spring officially begins with the vernal equinox at 7:02 a.m. Wednesday, but it won't feel much like it since daytime highs will be stuck in the 40s all week. Last year, they were in the 70s! Average highs in March for our area should be close to 50.

Our current weather pattern will continue to "favor colder storms that bring snow, in part, from the Central states to the East into early April," according to Accuweather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

"The pattern may translate to a longer heating season, higher heating bills and more time, money and effort into snow removal later into the season than usual in some communities," he writes.

The local weather could improve slighty by the end of the week with sunny skies Friday and Saturday and a projected Saturday high of 44, according to the National Weather Service.

The days are getting longer if not much warmer.

Sunset Wednesday will be at 7:14 p.m. with dark descending at 8:46 p.m., according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
