“Yesterday, Memorial Day, was the last day of the walk,” said Brown on his blog, ocjoan.blogspot.com on Tuesday. “I am fine but my feet are telling me loud and clear that it is time to hang up my sneakers.”

Brown was scheduled to walk to San Francisco in 227 days; he kicked off the walk in Atlantic City in February and ended as he entered his 10th state, Kansas.

“The primary purpose of the walk was to raise awareness for ovarian cancer,” Brown blogged.  “I feel we have done that.”

Brown had countless interviews on television, radio and print news outlets throughout his trek.

Brown also aimed to bring attention to the American Volkssport Association, a walking group he belonged to with Joan.

“With apologies to Robert Frost ‘I have miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep,’” Brown said.
