Guinness World Record Beaten by Collegeville Man

James C. Rees, Sr., of Collegeville, has owned his Chevrolet Coupe for over 61 years.

 

If you happen to see a vintage-looking vehicle around town, there is a good chance that it’s not just any car; it’s the car of a Guinness World Record-holding car, with a world-record holding driver.

On Saturday, James C. Rees, Sr., of Collegeville, received a certificate for entering the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest ownership of a car since new.

“James purchased a new Chevrolet in 1951 and still drives it today,” said his son, Rod Rees.

According to Guinness World Records, the vehicle is a white and grey Chevrolet Coup.

Rees's official record-breaking ownership time is 61 years, seven months and 25 days.

The surprise ceremony was held at Collegeville Italian Market, and Patch Automotive Columnist Mischa Arnosky was on hand for the ceremony. Rees will be featured in an upcoming county-wide column on his accomplishment.
