Collegeville Man Walking Across America in Memory of His Wife
The Perkiomen Valley Patch is following Dave Brown (electronically, at least) on his journey.
Collegeville’s David Brown is spending the next 216 days walking cross-country in honor of his late wife, Joan, and to raise money for ovarian cancer research.
Brown is chronicling his journey on his blog, and has given Patch permission to re-post some of his photos and update readers on his progress. We will give you a weekly update every Monday on how far Dave has gotten on his trek, and what he has seen.

Brown set off on his journey from Atlantic City on Feb. 28.
“Thirty Liberty Bell Wanderers came down to see me off,” Brown said in his blog. “I started by dipping my shoes in the Atlantic facing west and heading for another large body of water.”
Brown is walking mostly along U.S. Route 40. Each morning, Brown finds someone to follow him as he leaves his car at the endpoint of that day’s walk, and is dropped off at the start of the walk. He walks 14 miles to his car, with the goal to get there by sunset.

On Day Five, from Sharpton, NJ to Bear, Del., the wind chill factor was in the 20’s.
Brown took the Day Seven off due to snow.
“Since I walked an extra 10 miles yesterday, I only need to walk an extra 4 miles tomorrow to get back on schedule,” Brown said. “Today was a great day for doing laundry and coordinating media and lodging for the next week.”
Brown spent the weekend walking through Maryland, ending his eleventh day on the road in Cooksville, Md.
