Evergreen Students Celebrate Reading with Parade, Pep Rally

Students celebrated Dr. Seuss, 'Read Across America,' PSSA testing.

Evergreen Elementary School students had a lot to celebrate at their reading pep rally and parade on Friday.

The students were partying in honor of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, who celebrated a birthday Saturday, and the National Education Association’s annual celebration “Read Across America,” and they were also pepping themselves up for Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) testing, which will occur in March and April.

Students in kindergarten through second grade started the fun with a parade through the school’s hallways, wearing headbands displaying their favorite book characters and carrying signs and flags to encourage the third, fourth and fifth graders to do well on their upcoming standardized tests.

When students entered the pep rally, Perkiomen Valley High School cheerleaders led the students in cheers about Evergreen Elementary, reading and the PSSAs. Teachers were also festive, having dressed as storybook characters.
