Graterford Guard Charged with Inmate Sexual Assault, Authorities Say

A Graterford Prison guard is facing a number of charges after an inmate alleged he was forced to perform sexual favors to avoid losing visitation rights, according to a report in the Pottstown Mercury.
Christopher M. Ganues, 40, of Upper Darby, was arrested and arraigned Tuesday before Judge Albert J. Augustine on charges including felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, felony criminal attempt of a rape, official oppression and felony sexual assault, according to court documents.

The Mercury reported that the victim sent a letter to the Pennsylvania State Police in November, stating that Ganues threatened to transfer the victim to restricted housing and take away visitation rights if he did not comply with Ganues' sexual demands, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The victim said that Ganues attempted to rape the inmate in his cell and, when unsuccessful, he demanded oral sex instead, police said. According to reports, the victim’s cellmate witnessed the assault.

The victim sent a rag with Ganues’ semen to the Pennsylvania State Police, according to court documents.
