Letter to the Editor: Elaborating on Trappe Council Candidates' Claims
Current councilman Nevin Scholl endorses trio for primary election.

Dear Trappe Residents,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve and to continue to serve you as a Trappe Councilman for more than seven years. A recent mailing from the incumbents, with the heading “Comparing the Candidates,” lists a few accomplishments that call out for elaboration.
“Negotiated savings in for trash collection”

While substantial savings were obtained, it was a result of my suggestion that we rebid the contract. (See 11/4/09 Council Minutes.) And to add insult to injury, this was after I was berated for even suggesting that the existing contract be rebid early.
“Saved water and sewer rate payers $250,000”

The analysis I shared with council at the time showed that more than 96 percent of the referred to health plan savings went back to the employees in other concessions, and less than 4 percent was saved by the ratepayers.
“Won Governor’s Award for five-year budget”
The main author of this budget was the borough manager, and as the Finance Committee Chairman, I probably spent more time and had more input on the award-winning budget than the three incumbents combined.
It appears that the record of the incumbents is so weak that they have resorted to stretching the truth and taking credit for the work of others.
I wholeheartedly endorse Chuck Rogers, Tammy Liberi and Karen Westgate for Trappe Borough Council. They have the temperament, honesty and experience we need.
Your humble servant,
Nevin H. Scholl
Trappe Borough Councilman
