No Cause for Alarm About Discolored Tap Water in Perkiomen Township

Pennsylvania American Water crews are flushing hydrants and pipes of sediment that is giving a yellow tinge to customers' water.

Pennsylvania American Water (PAW) is currently flushing pipes and hydrants to get rid of the sediment that some Perkiomen Township and other area residents may have seen coming from their taps Monday night and today.

According to Communications and External Affairs Director Terry Maenza, the current heat wave has put extra demands on the water system, so PAW has pushed water from Norristown to its Royersford connection. The extra water pressure stirred up sediment, causing some residents to see discolored water in their drinking glasses and bathtubs, Maenza said.

Maenza said there was “no health concern” with this situation. He acknowledged that while the yellowish water is “not pleasing to look at,” there is no call for a boil water advisory, and PAW hopes the flushing will address the situation.
