Perkiomen Township May Get its Own Mailing Address
Irked by being considered 'Collegeville' and 'Schwenksville,' township officials hope to become 'Perkiomen' in the eyes of the U.S. Postal Service.

Perkiomen Township Supervisor Richard Kratz said at the board's February meeting that a recent invitation to a local business really bothered him.
The business, in Perkiomen Township, was invited residents to its “Grand Opening”-in Collegeville.
“Quite honestly it’s disturbing, to me at least,” Kratz said.

Kratz recouted a conversation he had with Mayor Connie Peck of Trappe, who told him that the first step in creating a “Perkiomen”mailing address-Trappe created its own mailing address previously-is to contact the township’s U.S. Representative.

So Kratz went right to Rep. Jim Gerlach’s office, and a staff member told him that the township must provide a list of all addresses that would be in a new “Perkiomen” mailing address.
There would be no change in zip code, but all township addresses would all be considered “Perkiomen” – not “Collegeville,” or “Schwenksville,” or “Graterford.”
“Is it a great big deal?” Kratz asked. “It is to me.”
Township Manager Cecile Daniel said she would look further into the process.
