Royer vanished after leaving his apartment at the University of Rhode Island on 6:30 p.m. Thursday. He was seen purchasing gas and water around 2 a.m. in Allentown, only 30 miles from his home.

According to ABC, Royer’s vehicle was seen again around 1 p.m. on Friday at Route 501 and Route 22 in Lebanon County, over 60 miles west of Skippack.

“We are currently investigating (Royer) as a missing person,” said Trooper Morgan Crummy at a press conference on Monday, according to the Times Herald.  “At this point, while it may be a voluntary move on Matthew’s part, we are still expending all resources in this investigation to locate Matthew.”

Janet and Randy Royer, Matthew's parents, also addressed members of the press, pleading for the safe return of their son.

“Matthew, if you can hear this, no matter what the circumstances are, your friends and your family, we all love you, we’re here for you, please contact us, call home — we will come anywhere, any place, any time for you, we are here for you, we love you and miss you,” said Janet.

Philly.com is reporting that Matthew dropped out of the pharmacy doctoral program at the University of Rhode Island at the end of the Fall 2012 semester, but that he is still listed as a registered student of the university.
