PVHS Science Olympiad Team Wins Regional Competition

The Perkiomen Valley High School Team will advance to a state competition on April 19.

 

The Perkiomen Valley High School (PVHS) Science Olympiad team won first place at the regional competition at Kutztown University on Wednesday.

The team went up against more than 20 teams, and will continue to the state competition on April 19 at Juniata College.

Sophomore Megan Wong earned medals in Designer Genes, and Disease Detectives. 

Lillian Swei earned a first place medal along with Megan in Chemistry Lab.  Max Mattes and Pete Moran took second place in Robot Arm.

Pete also earned third place along with David Wang in Circuit Lab. 

Matt Jaeger and Jon Tang earned third place in Forensics.  Jon also earned medals with Megan in Designer Genes and Disease Detectives. 

Josh Gray and Brennen Novak placed third in Forestry.

The group, led by PVHS science teachers Mary Cutillo and Aaron Rudolf, and Howard Eskin, meets every Tuesday and Thursday after school during the school year, as well as many Saturdays, in preparation for the annual competition.

Activities throughout the year include construction of a robot, engineering and building a tower and a car designed to stop before it hits a terminal barrier, and preparation for numerous laboratory and knowledge based events, according to the Perkiomen Valley School District Website.
