PVHS Post Prom Seeks Funding, Volunteers

The committee needs help with the annual event, which helps to keep students safe after prom.

The Perkiomen Valley High School Post Prom Committee is asking for community members to donate time and money towards the May 18 event, which has helped to keep hundreds of students safe on prom night for the past 11 years.

The committee needs roughly $25,000 to fund the overnight event that hosts an estimated 500 students after prom from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and also offers an alternative for students who wish not to attend the prom.

Approximately 200 volunteers are needed to plan, fundraise, and help run the event from start to finish, which will have the theme “World Tour 2013” this year, according to the Perkiomen Valley School District.

“It is an amazing opportunity to reward our students for making a good choice to stay safe on one of the most dangerous nights of the year.  It requires the support of many – not just the night of the event, but in the months leading up to it,” said Sue Stultz, who chairs the Post-Prom Committee.

The committee is looking for help with acquiring sponsors for the event, organizing activities, games and entertainment, making and installing decorations, fundraising, acquiring prizes for the vent and donating food.

According to PVSD, it is a common misconception that the event relies primarily on high school parents as volunteers.  The committee welcomes the support of passionate people in the community, even those without students at PVHS, so that the group “may stay active from year to year.”

Additionally, the event hopes to represent a “cross-section of the community,” since the event limits the number of teens who would otherwise be on the road following prom.
