Regional 'Warrior' Nicholas Green Forges Ahead

A Philadelphia native finds a new way to compete and be active with the Wounded Warrior Games.

With the Wounded Warrior Games, which were held from May 16 to 21, hundreds of servicemen and women proved that injury and illness don’t mean defeat.

Participants coped with challenges, including amputations, spinal cord injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, as they competed in the annual Olympic-style games.

Philly native Marine Lance Corporal Nicholas Green, 21, was among them.

Green was part of the All-Marine team and took part in the 100-, 200- and 800-meter races, as well as the air rifle competitions. He lost his lower right leg after being shot during a robbery in Philadelphia while he was on leave last summer.

“At first, I didn’t think I’d be able to do any physical activity like that—at least not competitively,” Green said in an interview about being part of the Wounded Warrior Games. However, he discovered the games gave him a new way to take part in athletics. He also has hope for his future progress.
