Remembering Local Casualties of the Iraq War

In honor of the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, Perkiomen Valley Patch honors local heroes.

 

The Iraq War began ten years ago this week, on March 19, 2003. 

According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, including many from Pennsylvania.

CNN has created a dynamic interactive map of all casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Among them are three area men, including men from Collegeville, Green Lane and Royersford.

  • Sgt. John Thomas Bubeck, 25, of Collegeville, was one of three soldiers killed when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq, on Dec. 25, 2006. Nuneck Served with the Alpha Company, 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division
  • Lt. Col. Mark Patrick Phelan, 44. of Green Lane, was killed Oct. 13, 2004, by a roadside bomb in Mosul, Iraq. Phelan served with Alpha Company, 416th Civil Affairs Battalion, Army Reserves.
  • Capt. Nathan R. Raudenbush, 25, of Royersford, died when his vehicle encountered a roadside bomb on Feb. 20, 2008, in Busayefi, Iraq. Raudenbush served with Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
