Royersford Man Accused of Assaulting, Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend

Daman Smoot is being held on $1 million bail in connection with reported incident.

A Royersford man is incarcerated in Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $1 million bail after allegedly assaulting and abducting an ex-girlfriend in Salford Township last week.

According to a public notice, a 19-year-old woman was driving to her residence June 23 when her ex-boyfriend Daman Smoot, 27, stopped her by standing in the roadway.

When the teen stopped her car, Smoot allegedly “opened the driver’s side door … and began striking (the young woman),” police said.

Smoot is accused of getting into the car against his ex-girlfriend’s will and commandeering control of the vehicle, according to the report. The man allegedly continued to beat the woman and threatened to kill her.

Pulling into a driveway of an abandoned property, “witnesses heard the commotion and (the woman’s) screams for assistance” the notice states. Witnesses called police, and Smoot drove the car away from the scene with the teen still inside, police said.

Smoot abandoned the car on King Road and dragged the woman to a wooded area, police allege. After again threatening to kill her, according to reports, he released the woman. She walked away and met with responding police, the notice continues, and was taken to Grandview Hospital to be treated for injuries, including contusions and a bite mark.

Smoot is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, kidnapping, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment, the report states.

His next preliminary hearing is set for July 5 in Magisterial District Court 38-2-02.
