Stepping Up for Sandy Sellers Copley at Memorial 5K Run
First-ever event held in honor of area resident and hairdresser who died of cancer June 25, 2010.
Family and friends of the late Sandy Sellers Copley gathered at the in this morning for held in her memory.
One year ago today, Sandy lost her battle with cancer; she was 43 years old.
Smiles were shared and a few tears were shed as participants talked about Sandy—a Skippack resident and hairdresser at the Trappe —remembering her as “beautiful person and a beautiful soul.”

Proceeds from the walk will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which was Sandy’s favorite charity.
Raffles were held for prizes from various businesses including the , Carmine & Co. Hair Salon and Color Studio and ShopRite.

Wawa and Jim and Ralph’s Produce donated food and drinks. Century 21 Alliance agent Kimberly Lesher-Lattanzi, who knew Sandy, said if any client (buying or selling) took part in the 5K, Lattanzi would donate $200 of her commission to St. Jude’s after settlement. Members of the Cortiva Institute were on hand to give participants a therapeutic massage either before or after the event.
The race kicked off at 9 a.m. as numerous runners charged down the trail. Sandy’s mother, Charlotte Sellers, said she hoped her daughter—who had a leg amputated in an effort to fight the cancer—was running with two legs in Heaven with her “golden sneakers.”
“Don’t forget Sandy,” Sellers said in an announcement before the event. “She was a wonderful person.”
