Mark McKie, 62, and Maria Dickens, 65, who lived on the other side of the building, were both inside when the fire started. They were found dead Friday, according to reports.
"Saddened by this. It was unexpected," Dickens' son Christion Smith told CBS Philadelphia. "I was just with her on her birthday. On the 21st of this month."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire marshals and the Philadelphia division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
