Armed Security Guard Fires Rifle During Party In Philadelphia: Police

Police said a private security guard at a large gathering Saturday fired shots at a man who pulled out a gun during an altercation.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police said a rifle-wielding security guard fired shots while working at a party in the Frankford section of the city Saturday night.

Police were called to a vacant lot on the 1600 block of Orthodox Street at about 11:42 p.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired.

Officers found the lot hosted a large gathering that featured armed, private security for the event.

Police learned an altercation occurred at the gathering, and during the altercation, one person pulled out a gun and threatened one of the security officers.

The officer fired his weapon in response, police said.

Police later found the person who pulled the gun out, and found 9mm gun on him.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a leg injury, later confirmed by medical staff to be a gunshot wound, police said.

Four fired cartridge casings were recovered at the scene, according to police.

Police are investigating the incident.
