- City Council Member Cherelle Parker has resigned and expressed her intention of running for mayor, along with two others. “I am proud of the fact that I have never been afraid for Philadelphia to be safer and cleaner and putting people on a path to self-sufficiency, and I am going to continue to be an advocate for putting police on our streets,” said Parker. She believes the next mayor should be focused on leadership instead of "what is popular.” (WHYY)
- An affordable housing complex for people in recovery from substance abuse is set to open in West Philly. The new development broke ground at the site of a vacant lot on 51st Street in West Philadelphia last week and is intended to open in January 2023. Residents will have access to educational programs, including GED classes and after-school care for children, as well as a community kitchen, an outdoor green space, and a playground. - A teen was gunned down in front of a Northeastern Philadelphia corner smoke shop on Wednesday. Police found the 19-year-old around 2:00 a.m., bleeding heavily from gunshot wounds to his head and chest. Police say the teen died a short time later at the hospital. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
