Children, Pregnant Woman Killed In House Fire Deemed Arson: Philly Police

Two children and a reportedly pregnant woman died in a house fire Friday morning in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood.

PHILADELPHIA — A house fire in Philadelphia Friday morning led to the deaths of two children and a pregnant woman, as well as one person being taken into custody.

The fire started at about 4:53 a.m. on the 2500 block of North Corlies Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, police said.

First responders found the property fully engulfed in flames, and as crews worked to extinguish the blaze five people were found in the home.

Police said two children, both 6 years old, were taken to a local children’s hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Another child, 2, was also taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Two adult women, ages 54 and 31, were found in the home. One was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident is being considered arson and that one person is in custody for questioning. No charges have been filed as of Friday evening.
