PA Snow Forecast: Odds Increase For Big Storm Later In Month, NWS Says

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Forecasters have a clearer picture on an incoming storm this weekend that could bring snow to the region. But it will disappoint those who are wishing for heavy accumulation.

According to the National Weather Service, we can expect "light" snow in the Philadelphia region this weekend, with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation.

Based on the response to our Blizzard of 96 post, it seems there's a subset of people who are really eager for a big storm. Those wishing for a blizzard need not fret just yet: the odds will increase for a major snow event late in the month. That's when the chance of below-normal temperatures coincide with an above-normal precipitation probability.

The National Weather Service said from Jan. 18-31, the probability that temperatures will be below normal are as high as 60 percent. The probability that precipitation will be above normal is currently as high as 60 percent for that same time period.

Back to this weekend: Precipitation will move in overnight Saturday, likely after 4 a.m. Light snow will accumulate and could cause slippery travel and other disruptions. Snow is expected to stop later in the morning.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 17. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Wind chill values as low as -2. Breezy, with a northwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Blustery, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Friday night: Snow likely, mainly after 4 am. Cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 7am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
