Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. A group of animal rights activists gathered outside City Hall to protest the use of horses to pull tourist carriages through the city. The demonstrations were likely inspired by the recent viral video of a horse passing out on the streets of New York. Similar protests have been successful, such as the work of Jodie Whittaker to end the practice in Chicago. (WHYY)
  2. Three former police officers, who were charged with killing a young girl, will face trial for manslaughter. The offers shot 25 times at a moving car as a nearby crowd left a high school football game. Four people were shot by police outside the stadium, including soon-to-be third grader Fanta Bility. (Darien Times)
  3. Workers at the Philly Art Museum have formally gone on strike as they demand a livable wage. Adam Rizzo, who has worked as a staff educator for eight years, hasn't received a raise in three years and makes $50,000 a year. Rizzo said, "We can't afford to live in Philly with what we're getting paid." The union is willing to picket outside the museum all week. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)

Today in Philadelphia:

  • Macrame Workshop At Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (6:00 PM)
  • Rooted 201: Intermediate Genealogy Skills At Online (6:30 PM)
  • Tuesday Nights at the Movies At Woodmere Art Museum (7:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Spataro’s Cheesesteaks in the Reading Terminal Market will be selling "pink cheesesteaks," which feature dyed cheese. The money will go to support victims of domestic violence. (Wooder Ice)
  • While Bradley Cooper is widely known to be an Eagles fan, you may be surprised to learn about some others. Tina Fey and Questlove also root for the Eagles. (97.5 The Fanatic)
  • A Manayunk pizza maker will be competing on a new Hulu cooking show. David Lee will compete against other pizza makers for $10,000 in the show's fifth episode. (Patch)
