Philly Cop Dragged During Traffic Stop, Suspect Surrenders

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized Monday night after he was dragged during a traffic stop in Wissinoming, authorities said.

At around 9:42 p.m., the officer was conducting a vehicle investigation on the 4200 block of Cheltenham Avenue when the driver pulled off, throwing the officer from the vehicle and dragging him, Philadelphia police said in a statement.

The officer was later transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital by Medic Unit, police said. His condition was not immediately made clear.

The suspect, identified as Eddy Brito-Almonte, 20, from the 4500 block of D Street, surrendered to police late Tuesday, according to police.

Brito-Almonte is charged with aggravated assault, driving without a license, fleeing police and related offenses. Brito-Almonte’s Tesla, which was involved in the incident, was recovered on Tuesday, police said.
