PHILADELPHIA — A new article in British news website The Independent is glazing Philadelphia's food scene, which has grown in prestige over the past decade or so.

Independent writer Thea Everett called Philadelphia an "overlooked American metropolis" that's worth visiting "especially if you follow the food," in her article titled "Philadelphia is the USA’s ultimate city for food."

Everett touted Philadelphia's Italian offerings, highlighting Paesano’s, Dante and Luigi’s, Isgro Pastries, and Angelo's Pizzeria.

When it came to cheesesteaks, Everett said they reminded her of British beef pie. Interesting.

She also shouted out Santucci's Pizza and Michelin-recommended Pizzeria Beddia as must-visit pizza joints, and gave love to Blue Corn and Loco Pez for Mexican food, both of which she said was "far superior to anything I’ve eaten in Britain."

Other spots she gave love to were Parc, Middle Child, Miller's Twist, Comfort & Floyd, and the heavily lauded, James Beard Award-Winning Mawn.

And she even tried Philly's signature drink: the citywide.

It wasn't all about food, though. Everett mentioned Philadelphia Record Exchange and Laundrette Records for flipping though vinyl, and the Philadelphia Art Museum to walk off those decadent meals.

"My recommendation for the perfect trip, though, is to find the hot, salty, one-of-a-kind food only Philadelphia offers," she wrote.
