$5M Allocated By Chesco Commissioners For Revitalization Projects
The money will fund 11 projects in urban centers, including improvements to a busy intersection in downtown Phoenixville.

WEST CHESTER, PA —Chester County commissioners on Thursday approved $5 million in grants to municipalities in urban centers throughout the county for community revitalization projects.
Phoenixville was awarded $728,278 for improvements to the Starr Street and Bridge Street intersection.
The project will modernize the existing three-way intersection, allowing for a better flow of traffic and increased pedestrian safety by adding a straight-through lane on Starr Street, extending Starr Street north.

With the addition of the fourth lane, residents and visitors will be able to safely access the borough-managed Ashland Street parking lot and the Schuylkill River trailhead.
The location has a high traffic demand and significant congestion, borough officials said.

Commissioner Marian Moscowitz, chairwoman, said the grants help the county’s urban centers ensure that crucial infrastructure needs are maintained and improved. She said the grants also encourage new growth.
The commissioners also awarded these grants:
- Oxford Borough: $1 million to the Borough of Oxford for the redevelopment of the area around Niblock Alley and Broad Street Bridge;
- Modena Borough: $800,000 for stormwater management and road improvements;
- West Chester Borough: $697,797 for Gay Street Open-Air Marketplace infrastructure;
- Atglen Borough: $420,706 for Church Street and Tee Alley stormwater management system relocation;
- South Coatesville: $400,000 to South Coatesville for Youngsburg Road stormwater inlet replacement;
- Spring City: $390,640 for the completion of public parking improvements;
- Honey Brook Borough: $204,370 for curb, sidewalk, road, and storm pipe rehabilitation on South Chestnut Street.
- West Grove Borough: $164,399 for completion of the Prospect Avenue sidewalk to the borough line;
- City of Coatesville: $113,810for a comprehensive evaluation of the Gibbons Run Culvert system;
- Avondale Borough: $100,000 to survey and map the borough’s water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
