Drexel Grad Among Alps Plane Crash Victims

Emily Selke and her mother, Yvonne, were listed on board an Airbus jet that went down in French mountains, according to reports.

A Drexel University graduate and her mother are among the 150 victims of Tuesday’s plane crash in the German Alps, authorities announced.

Emily Selke and her mother, Yvonne, were on Germanwings Flight 9525 from Barcelona to Dusseldorf, Germany, when the plane went into a long descent and crashed. Germanwings is a budget airline operated by Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline.

Selke graduated from Drexel in 2013. She was traveling in Europe with her mother, an employee of Booz Allen Hamilton. Drexel University published a statement following the news of Selke’s death, saying:

Drexel is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of alumna Emily Selke and her mother. Emily graduated with honors from Drexel in 2013 and was a music industry major in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

A statement from Selke’s sorority, the Drexel University chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma Zeta, posted on its Facebook page says, “As a person and friend, Emily always put others before herself and cared deeply for all those in her life. Emily will be greatly missed by her fellow sisters of Zeta.”
