Fundraising Ramps Up for Phoenixville Fireworks

The Bucks for Bangs campaign needs $15,000 to keep the annual Fourth of July pyrotechnics going for its 16th year.

A night sky filled with colorful explosions of light is a beautiful thing to behold on the Fourth of July, but it’s a sight that is not cheap to pull off.

The Bucks for Bangs campaign to keep Phoenixville’s annual fireworks display going for another year is well underway and needs public donations to meet it’s $15,000 goal, according to its GoFundMe page.

The fireworks show is entering its 16th year, surviving for the past few years on the generosity of Phoenixville residents, businesses and organizations. The council stopped budgeting borough money for the fireworks in 2011, prompting former councilwoman Karen Johns to lead the yearly fundraising efforts.

“Each year that we produce it, it’s so exciting. It’s just a fun-filled, family-oriented event,” Johns said to Patch in 2012. “Once you’re there, you can feel the excitement building before the show. And way the children react, I enjoy it.”

The show is held each year at Friendship Field, located at the corner of Fillmore Street and Franklin Avenue.
