Holy Family Will Clean Up 36 Blocks In Phoenixville For Earth Day

Students at Holy Family School will clean up 36 blocks of Phoenixville Borough, including Reeves Park, on April 22.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Holy Family School students will head out on Earth Day to clean up 36 blocks of Phoenixville and all of Reeves Park, covering the streets from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue, and Starr Street to Quick Street.

Matt Cahill's first-grade class organized the neighborhood cleanup for Earth Day along with sixth-grade teacher Laura Miscoscia and the Holy Family School Student Council.

Cahill said, "To the best of our knowledge this is the largest neighborhood clean-up ever by any grade school in the Phoenixville area. This is our first year taking on such an ambitious task, but it won't be our last!"

"The pre-K has had an Earth Day clean-up around the school property over the last few years and we decided that everyone can do their part to give a little more and set an example for how to keep our world clean," he added.

This year on Earth Day, at 9:30 a.m., every student in the school — preschoolers through graders — will head out to clean up the neighborhood all around the school.

According to Cahill, "It's important to the Holy Family mission that we teach all of our students that everyone can make a difference in the world and every little bit matters. What may seem like a small thing to one person might mean the world to someone else, so every kind word and every gesture makes the world a better place."

"If we all do something to help the environment hopefully others will be inspired to do something too," Cahill added.

In addition to the neighborhood clean-up, Cahill explained each class will be teaching Earth Day lessons and the Holy Family School Student Council will be holding a fundraiser for Team Trees.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be the following day, April 23.
