UProv Receives Donation, Allocates Fire Company Money

The Fire and Emergency Services Board received a donation from the new Movie Tavern.

The Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors held its first August meeting on Monday night.

The meeting agenda consisted of mostly routine business, with a couple of items of interest to the community.

Fire and Emergency Services Director Don Stiteler announced that his department received a donation of a bit more than $2,900 from the new Movie Tavern location in Providence Town Center.

Movie Tavern holds a VIP Grand Opening night to thank the people who helped in building its locations—construction employees, government officials and other workers—and they choose a local charity or organization to benefit from the proceeds.

Stiteler said the Fire and Emergency Services Board will discuss what to do with the donation at this week's committee meeting.

"We'll decide whether we can use it for training or some equipment that we need," he said.

The supervisors also accepted the Fire and Emergency Services Board's recommendations on funding allocations to the six volunteer fire companies that serve the township.

The funds are distributed to the departments yearly. After funds for operating expenses are paid to Mont Clare and Oaks Fire Companies, the six companies then split the remainder of the funds based on the number of calls answered.

In other business, the board approved several new ordinances involving tax collection. These ordinances were required to make tax collecting measures uniform throughout the county.

Recreation Director Susan Barker said that the new recreation center is still accepting memberships. Residents and non-residents are welcome to become members at the center.

Barker also said that the recreation department has discount tickets for amusement parks as well as local movie theaters available.
