The Education Partnership Asks Area Organizations to Become “Homeroom Heroes”

The Education Partnership is pleased to announce the launch of its new corporate engagement initiative, “Homeroom Heroes,” which officially kicks off this fall.

The program asks companies to become Homeroom Heroes by helping the organization provide students and teachers in southwestern Pennsylvania with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

“Members of the Pittsburgh community are often shocked to learn that thousands of area children do not have the mere essentials, such as pencils and paper, in their classrooms,” said Justin Brown, Executive Director of The Education Partnership.

“We look forward to working side-by-side with companies to make a difference and significantly impact local schools.”

After recently surpassing a total of $1 million worth of school supplies distributed since the organization’s founding in 2009, The Education Partnership was looking to move the needle even further in the community.

This is why the Homeroom Heroes program was created – to leverage the collective power of the organizations, their employees and their resources to provide even more eligible schools with new school supplies through their on-site Resource Center and in-school product distributions at no cost to the schools, teachers or students.

Homeroom Heroes encourages companies to get involved with The Education Partnership and support its mission in four ways:  

§        Upcycle – companies can repurpose viable, excess, gently used supplies and donate them to help teachers and classrooms

§       Host product drives – groups can organize and host on-site product drives by collecting new supplies for students

§       Volunteer – supporters can give their time and assist with a variety of tasks including helping with inventory and staffing on-site teacher distribution events

§       Donate – corporations and individuals can provide financial support to the organization, which receives no government funding and delivers a 3:1 return on every dollar

Based on current commitments and the launch of the Homeroom Heroes program, The Education Partnership estimates that they will be able to serve more than 600 teachers and 6,000 students during the 2012-2013 school year.
