Back-To-School Countdown Begins

As the calendar rolls over to August, it's time to start the countdown to that first day of school.

Oh, no, you might say. Not yet. How could you bring it up so early?

Well, back-to-school sales have started—a sure sign of the beginning of the academic year—and it's time to plan those remaining precious days of summer.

When does school start? Depends on whether you're a teacher or student

The first day for students is Tuesday, Aug. 28. Teachers head back for in-service days on Thursday, Aug. 23.

But the schools' campuses will be busy before that. Band camp starts Aug. 6 and fall sports begin Aug. 13. 

Inevitably, the question comes around: What days do we have off? Here's the answer. Of course, this could change if there are snow days to make up. But, for now, go ahead and mark your calendar.

Sept. 3, Labor Day

Oct. 8, Columbus Day (Teacher In-Service Day)

Nov. 12, Veterans Day (Parent-Teacher Conferences)

Nov. 22-26, Thanksgiving Break

Dec. 24-Jan. 1, Winter Break

Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Day

Jan. 22, Clerical Day

Feb. 18, President's Day

March 27, Teacher in-Service Day

March 28-April 1, Spring Break

May 10, Half Day for Students & Friends & Family Day 

May 27, Memorial Day

June 11, Last Day for Students (Half Day)

June 12, Clerical Day

June 13, Teacher In-Service Makeup Day

June 14, Graduation
