Columbia Gas Planning Major Pipeline Upgrade in Pine—How It Will Affect You

With spring almost here, Columbia Gas is readying to launch a $374,000 pipeline-improvement project along Wexford Bayne Road in Pine.

The work is scheduled to begin in April.

Columbia Gas spokeswoman Sarah Perry said the project, which aims to update aging infrastructure, replaces about 3,000 feet of existing steel pipe with state-of-the-art plastic pipe.

The affected area involves Route 910 from Killarney Drive to North Chapel Drive. Perry said about 26 customers would be affected by the construction.

Those Columbia customers will receive face-to-face notification prior to the start of the project and will be notified again prior to any temporary gas interruptions, she said.

The entire project is expected to be complete by mid-June.

Columbia has pledged to fully restore property to its pre-construction condition as soon as possible. New service lines also will be installed for impacted customers at no additional cost to the customer

The construction will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. with temporary lane closures possible during working hours.

For this project, Columbia will be using flaggers but not police to assist with traffic control.

“This does vary from project to project, typically state police are not used to assist in traffic control during our projects, even when the work is being done on a PennDOT roadway,” Perry said.

As a reminder, all Columbia employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name, photograph and identification number.
