Teen driver strikes Hart as she opened door on parked SUV in Slippery Rock, police said.

Former Rep. Melissa Hart is in a Butler hospital, recovering from injuries sustained two weeks ago from an automobile accident involving a teen driver, KDKA is reporting.

A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female struck Hart Jan. 26 as she opened a driver’s-side door on her parked SUV on Main Street in Slippery Rock, Police Chief Terry Fedokovitz said.

Either the door and-or the passing vehicle struck Hart and threw her to the ground, the chief told KDKA.

Police are still investigating and have not charged the teen. The chief said the driver showed no signs of impairment and they did not know if she was texting at the time.

KDKA reported that no information has been released about Hart’s condition, but the station was told she  hopes to make a full recovery

Hart, of McCandless, represented Pennsylvania’s 4th District from 2001 to 2006.
