A number of local politicians made appearances at the festivities at Pine Community Park.

As the sun came out on the festivities at Pine Community Day on Saturday, so did the politicians.

House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Bradford Woods, is a mainstay at community days and once again he was the man with the microphone for the watermelon-eating and pie-eating contests.

He invited his colleague, Rep. Randy Vulakovich, R-Shaler, to join him in his emceeing and judging duties. Vulakovich is running for the 40th senatorial district seat vacated by Jane Orie, who was convicted and sentenced to prison for using her state-paid staff to do campaign work.

U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-12th District, and Republican Keith Rothfus also were making the rounds, meeting potential voters. They face off in the Nov. 4 general election for the newly drawn 12th congressional district.

Pine Community Day was the perfect venue for the meet-and-greets as crowds filled Pine Community Park to listen to music by NOMaD and The Followers, eat kettle corn and other treats, play on inflatable slides and see fireworks.
