Traffic Blotter: West View Man Hits Brakes, Spins, Hits Wall on Babcock

Northern Regional Police Department provided the following information.

A West View man who hit his brakes when he saw a car backing out of a driveway on Babcock Boulevard in Pine Township July 14 ended up hitting a wall as his pickup went into a spin on the damp road, a report states.

Paul Hafner, 41, was traveling north on Babcock near McLeod Drive when he saw the vehicle pulling out of the driveway at 11111 Babcock about 7:30 p.m., police said.

Hafner told police his brakes locked up, the report states.

“He stated that the vehicle began to spin and he struck the wall in front of 11111 Babcock Boulevard with the driver’s front corner," according to the report. "After striking the wall, the vehicle continued to spin, and ended up facing south (on) the opposite side of the road.”

The report notes the driveway is located immediately after a right curve in the road and is somewhat hidden from view.

Jeep Jumps Curb, Runs Into Two Parked Vehicles

A Jeep Grand Cherokee jumped the curb in the Giant Eagle parking lot in Richland Township about 12:30 p.m. on July 13 and ran into two parked cars, Northern Regional police report.

Police identified the Jeep driver as Jean G. Tilly, 86, of Gibsonia.

“For an unknown reason, (Tilly) traveled to the right of the trafficway and jumped the curb," the report states.

The Jeep ran into a 1997 Chrysler Concord owned by Judy Bierau, of Gibsonia, and a 2007 Toyota Corolla owned by Angela Foote, of Gibsonia, police said.

Collision Occurs at Merge Point on Route 19

Two vehicles collided about 1 p.m. July 11 at a merge point on Route 19/Perry Highway southbound at the access road for Pine Tree Shoppes, police said.

James Pierson Jr., 53, of Turnersville, NJ, was merging into the passing lane in the construction zone when the driver-side rear fender on his 2010 Nissan Maxima collided with the front passenger side of a Toyota 4Runner, according to Northern Regional police.

Police identified the Toyota driver as 59-year-old Donna Truver, of Glenshaw.

 

Rear-End Collision on Route 19 at Wallace Road

A 68-year-old Pittsburgh woman told police she was “going a little too fast" about 11 a.m. July 9 and could not stop in time to avoid running into the back of a Hyundai on Route 19/Perry Highway, police said.

Carol Gettings, 68, ran into the back of a 2011 Hyundai Tucson driven by 56-year-old Rebecca Joseph, of New Castle, near the Wallace Road intersection in Pine Township, police said.

 

Camry Runs Into Back of Suburban on Route 910

A Toyota Camry ran into the back of a Chevrolet Suburban about 8:30 a.m. on July 9 on Route 910 in Richland Township, police said.

Lisa Williams, 45, of Valencia told police she stopped on westbound Route 910 near Meridian Road because vehicles in front of her had stopped, according to police.

“She said that she applied the brakes and items in her front seat shifted and she tried to grab them. She said that she let off the brake and then struck (the Suburban) from behind,” police said.

Police identified the Suburban driver as 37-year-old Tracy Fletcher, of Tarentum.
