Allegheny County Jail Guard From Plum Facing Charges

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Police have filed charges against a former corrections officer at the Allegheny County Jail.
On January 3, police were alerted to an unplanned use of force event that occurred inside the jail. The incident took place while officers were conducting window checks of cells in the jail and involved an incarcerated man and multiple corrections officers.
Corrections officer Robert Veith, 49, of Plum, allegedly was observed striking the inmate with ; his fist multiple times. He allegedly continued to hit the inmate even after he had been tasered and had fallen to the ground.

Veith has been charged with harassment, official oppression, and simple assault.
County police said Monday he no longer is employed at the jail.
