PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA — Two police officers were struck by a vehicle in Plymouth Township Friday afternoon while responding to a call, according to authorities.

The incident occurred just after noon near the intersection of Narcissa Road and Hickory Road.

Precise circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear, but authorities said they were responding to a report of a reckless driver. The vehicle struck the officers while fleeing the scene, officials said.

Both officers are with the Plymouth Township Police Department and have hospitalized with unknown injuries.

Several local police departments issued statements expressing solidarity with the injured officers, as did area lawmakers.

"My team and I are aware of the two Plymouth Township Police Officers that were injured today. At this time, we would ask that our entire community pray for the officers and their families," said State Rep. Greg Scott, who represents the area.

Nearby roads have been shut down and police ask the public to avoid the area.
