Car-Wrapping Ad Possibly a Scam, Police Say
Want your car wrapped in an ad? Deposit an Alabama-sent money order from a Texas bank and wire the funds to a guy in Philadelphia.

A Whitemarsh resident filed a police report regarding a potential car-wrapping scam.
According to the report, the resident responded to an advertisement in a local newspaper regarding wrapping his vehicle with an advertisement to make money. The ad ran in the newspaper on Dec. 22.
About three weeks later, on Jan. 16, the resident received a personal money order in the amount of $1,730 from Texas State Bank, which was sent to him via FedEx from Birmingham, Ala. The instructions, which were sent to the Whitemarsh resident via email, instructed the resident to deposit the money into his bank account and then to wire the money via Western Union to a man in Philadelphia.

The resident suspected this to be a scam, and did not deposit the money order, police said.
According to police, an internet search of the car-wrapping company, Concept Car Wrap, revealed several "scam warnings;" the newspaper said that it would not renew the car-wrapping company's advertisement, which ran through the end of December.
