Aronson, 43, has been mayor since he first won election in 2018. Makoid, 49, is running against Aronson for the second time, after the pair faced off in 2021.

Heading into what would be his third term, Aronson has shaped his campaign on the progress made in his first eight years in office, citing relationships he's forged in the community and pointing to the growth of the borough.

"Nothing is accomplished in a vacuum," Aronson said. "Building positive relationships with our borough administration, council members, the police department, business, and nonprofit groups has led to a tremendous amount of progress in the past four years. The collaborative, transparent and inclusive team that we have in Conshohocken ensures results for residents."

Makoid, a telecommunications professional, has not held elected office in the past and his advocates have hailed him as a "true political outsider." Makoid and Republicans have criticized Aronson's administration for governing in the dark and repeatedly point to what they call the dangers of "single party rule" in the borough by Democrats.

"As someone with established roots in the Borough, he is concerned about the lack of transparency in local government and the danger of single-party rule," the Conshohocken Republican Committee said of Makoid. "Mike will use the platform and visibility provided by the Mayor’s office to raise awareness of matters of importance to the residents of the Borough and to be their advocate."

Aronson beat Makoid in a landslide four years ago, 1,508 to 853. It came after a much narrower victory in 2017 over Robert Frost, 1,170 to 1,033.

The increasing margin of victory has been concurrent with a "blue wave" in many of the once-red or purple communities in the Philadelphia suburbs. The wave began in 2018, during the midterm elections of President Trump's first term in office.

While Democrats made large gains at the local level throughout Montgomery County and Chester County, turning legislative districts and mayorships firmly blue. However, following President Trump's gains the suburbs in the 2024 election and decisive victory in Pennsylvania, many in the GOP believe the pendulum to be swinging once again.

The Conshohocken mayoral race is one of several local races in new Democratic-run communities that were formerly Republican strongholds which could serve as a bellwether for electoral appetites heading into the 2026 midterms.
