A Former Springfield Township Commissioner Has Died At The Age Of 95
Roy D. Hanshaw, Sr., of Oreland, Pa., passed away at 95. The longtime Montco resident was a former Springfield Township commissioner.
ORELAND, PA — A former longtime Montgomery County resident who resided in Springfield for nearly 70 years and served for a time as an elected township commissioner in that community has passed away at the age of 95.
Roy D. Hanshaw, Sr., a World War II veteran who served as a Springfield Township commissioner from 1979 to 1995, died on April 27, according to his obituary.
No cause of death was listed.

Hanshaw had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was stationed in the Pacific.
After the war, he went on to earn a bachelor's and then a master's degree, and then went on to lead a successful, 40-year career with the Keystone Automotive Club, now known as AAA Mid Atlantic, retiring from his position in 1991, his obituary states.

During his career, Hanshaw earned numerous awards including the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Award for his work in pedestrian safety, and the Safety Man of the Year Award in 1996 by the Pennsylvania Police Chiefs Association.
Hanshaw also served his community in various ways, including being active with the Little League, the Babe Ruth League, the Oreland Swim Club and Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie, to whom he was married for 42 years, and he is survived by his second wife, Dorothy, as well as son Roy Jr., daughters Etta Berry, Mary Rose Speca and Susan Dascher, stepdaughters Suzanne Mayes and Elizabeth Morris, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral has been scheduled for this coming Saturday.
