Man Injured During Fall From Plymouth Tree [UPDATE]

A man suffered a head injury after a 30-feet fall from a tree and was flown by PennSTAR to a downtown hospital.

A Norristown man suffered head injuries after falling 30 feet from a tree in Plymouth Township and was flown for treatment by a PennSTAR helicopter to a downtown hospital on Thursday around 3:30 p.m.

William Groff, 66, was found by a mailman to be lying on the ground on the 600 block of Wayland Road in Plymouth Township, according to the Plymouth Township Police.

There was wound on the side of Groff's head, and his right arm seemed to be broken near his wrist, police said.

The officer noticed an a-frame ladder and cutting tools near where Groff was lying, and it appeared he had fallen from a ladder while cutting limbs from a tree.

According to Michael Sturm of the Harmonville Fire Co., Groff had fallen roughly 30 feet.

As Groff regained consciousness, he began to get combative as responders were treating his wounds, police said.  He was secured and moved by Plymouth Ambulance to the Villanova baseball field at Germantown Pike and Walton Road, where he was flown by PennSTAR to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
