Massive $39M Ridge Pike Improvement Project Moving Forward
In the works for years, the overhaul of Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township has begun. What to know:
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA — Officials leading the $39 million improvement work on a stretch of Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township will hold an open house for the general public to learn more about the project's future.
The open house will be held on Sept. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Greater Plymouth Community Center at 2910 Jolly Road in Plymouth Township.
The westbound lane of Ridge Pike will be shut down later in August, as will a section of Barren Hill Road at Ridge Pike, officials said. Exact dates have not yet been announced.

The county has been planning this part of the project for years, and finalized the $39 million contract with J.D. Eckman this spring. The work will expand Ridge Pike to five lanes between Belvoir Road and Chemical Road, will replace a county bridge over Norfolk Southern railroad, I-476, and Plymouth Creek.
New sidewalks, bus stops, and stormwater management systems will also be added.

Officials are hopeful the additions will ease traffic flows in the area, accomodate a growing population, and allow for both motorist and vehicular access to business along the route.
Work began on the project on July 24.
